It’s a restaurant, bar, ping pong haven and lounge all in one. The new SPiN social club is ricocheting its way into San Francisco and set to open this month in the heart of the market district. Helping to solidify San Francisco’s reputation of being an over-the-top play land for adults, SPiN’s interior is a roomy 12,000-square-feet, filled with graffiti murals, as well as large scale installations with space designed for 19 STIGA ping pong tables, two full bars, a private VIP lounge, and patio. Stadium-style seating surrounds the ping pong tables, which are open for recreational play as well as occasional professional tournaments. But the best feature is how playing ping pong brings people together, forcing people to look up from their phones and connect with each other.
The growing chain started in New York City seven years ago as a result of loft-style parties that turned into a viable business plan, with locations now open in Chicago, Los Angeles and Toronto. Founded by actress Susan Sarandon, it’s become a bit of a scene for celebrities looking for creative entertainment.
Centrally located across from the Moscone Convention Center, SPiN is the perfect venue for a twist on team building, as a means to connect people and spur creativity, not to mention some good old competition among colleagues. During breaks between games, guests are treated to tasty creations from Chef Mike Betancourt who is in charge of the kitchen. He turns out dishes with a San Francisco flair, while focusing on food that’s easy to consume while standing and engaging in conversation. Finger foods like sliders and flatbreads are the main focus, along with truffle fries and Irish coffee ice cream sandwiches. On the bar side, beverages are made to order craft cocktails, draft beers and wine, including LOBs – low alcohol carbonated beverages made and bottled in-house.
