Known as a food-centric city that has always been obsessed with the playful art of dining, the recent surge in restaurant openings is unprecedented even for New Orleans. But as tourists and corporate groups flock in record numbers (9 million to be exact), the NOLA restaurant scene is sizzling well before the summer heat hits. And, the dining scene is on fire with creativity. It was once a spot for chefs to hone their skills before moving to other major culinary cities such as New York, but now there’s a reverse migration underway as Big Apple chefs are moving to New Orleans to set the bar high.
By one count there were already 65 restaurants on the three miles of Magazine Street, a major artery through the city’s upscale districts. But on any given day, diners are eager for number 66.
As the city attracts much more attention nationally and internationally, the region has seen a tremendous need for more spaces for events and banquets. To meet the growing demand for special event space and private dining functions, a variety of New Orleans restaurant groups are expanding. Last spring, Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts took over the former Spanish restaurant Galvez in the French Market, a space well-known in the neighborhood that will be called Marché (French for market) and is set to open this summer. A unique and opulent event space located on N. Peters Street in the French Quarter, the venue offers gorgeous, sweeping views from the rooftops to the river of both the quarter and the Mississippi river. This unique indoor and outdoor special event venue can accommodate up to 120 guests seated or 250 people reception-style.
Marché is an example of a refurbishment of an old space done right, with well-appointed finishes replicating New Orleans’ authenticity. The restaurant completed a soft launch opening last month with plans for a grand opening in just a few short weeks.
Allow guests to immerse themselves in the New Orleans culture while enjoying rich local flavors in a variety of traditional and contemporary dishes.
